(NH)(10-28-2021) NH State Police trooper killed in crash while working traffic detail on I-95

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. — A New Hampshire State Police trooper died Thursday, October 28, 2021 in a crash involving a tractor-trailer on Interstate 95 in Portsmouth.

Staff Sgt. Jesse Sherrill, 44, was working a traffic detail when his cruiser was struck by the tractor-trailer just after 12:30 a.m. near exit 5. Sherrill was taken to Portsmouth Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the tractor-trailer was also taken to Portsmouth Regional Hospital, where he was treated and released.

“Staff Sgt. Sherrill was known as a trooper’s trooper, a consummate dedicated professional and a true family man,” New Hampshire State Police Col. Nathan Noyes said.

Sherrill began his career in 2001 with the Hooksett Police Department and joined the New Hampshire State Police in 2002.
