Professional Qualifications Committee for Traffic Management Approved- Applications for Committee Members Now Being Solicited
The National Fire Protection Association approved a new Committee to develop Traffic Control Incident Management Professional Qualifications.
The proposed standard will identify the minimum job performance requirements (JPRs) necessary to perform temporary traffic control duties at emergency incidents on, or near an active roadway.
The Committee shall have jurisdiction over NFPA documents that address professional qualifications for emergency responders in relation to their operations on roadways.
The NFPA received over 40 requests from major public safety organizations requesting the establishment of the new committee.
NFPA develops, publishes, and disseminates more than 300 consensus codes and standards intended to minimize the possibility and effects of fire and other risks. Virtually every building, process, service, design, and installation in society today is affected by NFPA documents.
The NFPA Professional Qualifications Series is the backbone of qualifications in the fire service and other emergency response organizations. The standards are developed under guidelines set by the American National Standards Institute which means they are “consensus based”. The scope of the new standard will be inclusive of all roadway responders including but not limited to police, EMS, fire, towing and recovery and DOT. As such membership on the committee is solicited from all parties who have an interest in managing highway incidents safely and efficiently.
Respondersafety.com urges qualified persons to consider applying for membership on this ground breaking committee. Applicants DO NOT need to be an NFPA member.
